The Finished Trees

So here are my finals for the December show at Project: Gallery.

I actually finished 'him' on Wednesday and 'her' on Thursday, but I've been swamped with other stuff ever since.

Grow

This drawing is actually based on the fact that I never had a growth spurt, growing up. I remember those charts they'd have in the classroom to measure your height, and how everyone would make a big deal over how much they'd grown. This is my interpretation of those memories.

How coincidential that 4 of my recent drawings could also have illustrated the word "grow" in their own separate ways:

A couple of Christmas trees. At least, that's the idea.

Here are the drawings for the Project: Gallery show. The theme is Christmas cards, and they are supposed to be 4" x 6" in dimension.

I'm working on the paintings for these, and believe me when I say how grueling it is to paint this small.

I have another piece to do for December, so I'm busy whether I like it or not (it's a good thing that I like it)! Oh, and I haven't forgotten about Rogue— I'll start on her next week.

Oh, and there was a little bit of confusion, but it looks like Asia and I will be featured at Cannibal Flower in February, not Thinkspace. More on that over the next few months, but that's an important detail that I wanted to clear up!

Extremes

This is a page out of a zine called “Sugar and Spice,” that my sister and I did. We drew the image together, and I did the hand-writing on top.

For those of you who don’t know about it, and are asking “how is this ‘extremes’?”…
Sailor and Mabel are a pair of unusually conjoined twins (as you can see!) , who have strikingly different personalities. Sailor is the one you can see entirely in the image, and Mabel’s face is in the mirror.

The story takes place in a fictional 1920’s circus world that my sister and I made up (yes, my sister and I are twins…), full of eccentric characters and quirky situations.

Here's my story for the week. Monday is "post about environmental awareness" day, so maybe I was getting a head start. I love figuring out a painting as I go. Just a drawing to go by, and a color scheme that ends up changing completely.

News: I will also be part of the December group show at Project: Gallery this year! More on that soon.

So here are some drawings that will soon be paintings towards the 2-person shows next year. Not sure which will go in which; depends on how the rest of the work evolves.

Fellow classmates of mine might recognize the characters and imagery from the book I did for JT's class, The Evil Eye. These paintings will be based on that story. I had promised to work on it this summer, but time came and went into other things, and nothing happened. So, at least I'm using all those characters, landscapes, and ideas and adding new stuff to them, for these.

Work, Work, Work

Here are some new character studies for more paintings. Exciting News: Asia (www.asiaengart.com) and I are going to be featured in a show together in Thinkspace Gallery this February! Also, look out for our work in the upcoming Cannibal Flower exhibitions (more details on that later)! I'm dying to create more work, and I'm going to be busier than ever for the rest of the year: perfect. Now I can see more of a clear-cut path.

Blacklight II, this Saturday

Forgive the flash, but look how these look in their frames! I was really impressed by what a great job the guys at Mittel's did on such short notice.

"Houdini" will be in the main room, and "Inner Demons" will be in the blacklight room this Saturday at the Hive's Blacklight II show. The Blacklight room looks incredible, I saw it last night during the drop-off-- stop by if you have the chance, it'll be up for the rest of October.

I made a ton of drawings the past two days for my April show, and I'm dying to have my scanner back. I'll post them later, but I'm pretty excited with what's happening.

It's technically Monday right now.

So my Mac died. It needs to be serviced this week, don't know when yet. But that means no scanner, no updating my website ( which I was about to do), and more insanity for my poor sister (she lost some files).

All I have are digital photos. We made this little guy on Tuesday. My sister made his body and sewed his head onto it. I sculpted and painted his head. Look closely: he's mouthless. I did 7 other heads and painted six of them. They still need bodies and clothes, but they won't be getting them for a while!

These past 2 days, I've been working on my show for next April. Pieces of characters, scraps of stories, half-formed images, premature sketches, doodles, scribbles, frenzied notes, lethargic pencil strokes, defeated sighs, spurts of inspiration, research, research, research. Love this stage.
