Next piece...

Here is the drawing for my next painting. She's not part of the witch theme (that's for the 1988 show). This will be a 7"x7" for a special group show in February, more details soon!

Just realized that I rarely show drawings for upcoming paintings; in fact the last one I shared was back in May or something for the Distinction Gallery piece! Another rare thing-- it's not on tracing paper like 99% of my final drawings, heh.

What fun, fun, fun...

...I got all 4 wisdom teeth out last week! Never knew chewing could be such a valuable ability until now, and I visibly lost some weight, haha. Anyways...

So the Corey Helford show is finally viewable on my website, flickr, facebook, etc. Sorry for the weird lack-of-imagery-until-after-the-show thing-- I usually have everything photographed before the show, but this one turned out different! I also didn't get a chance to write about each piece, but I'm sure those interested have already read the interview on this show where I talked about it. I don't always feel comfortable defining each piece, even though there are reasons for each thing I put into them (whether I plan it ahead of time, or it develops a meaning)...if you are curious about a particular painting's meaning/story/inspiration/thought process, (especially if you bought one and want to know about yours) just email me and I wouldn't mind sharing :) As opening-night guests soon discovered, I am notoriously tongue-tied on this subject in person, but at least via email I can give it some thought and articulate myself better.

Here is some cool-ness: the awesome Geoff put me on Artist a Day last week. And apparently I'm on the top 25 highest rated list. Wow! How did I deserve that? Thanks to everybody who voted and for leaving great feedback :)

Some exciting things are happening in 2009 which I am bursting at the seams to share, but I'll tell about them later. Looks like I'm getting back to the easel sooner than I expected-- this week! Sigh...the break was too short. I ended up working more than relaxing, although I did get to watch a few films, and sit in bed with toothache for some time. haha.. My sister has vowed to kidnap me a few times in the next couple weeks to ensure that I get out of the house before '09, so I'll content myself with that.

The next few paintings will be on the small side, so I'll have a chance to try new things and focus in on the technical side some more. Plus I always love the challenge of telling a story in a small space. Here's a clue as to what they'll be about: witches

Thank you...!

like this image? so do i. and it belongs to Coilhouse.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the opening on Tuesday night, and to those of you who bought a painting from the show! I had a wonderful time meeting and getting to know some of you there, and can't wait to be back in July for more. And of course, many thanks to Jan, Bruce, Richard, and David for working like mad and getting me there in the first place.

I can't believe that this is it for 2008! I will be spending the rest of December drawing-- getting back to the roots, coming up with ideas, and trying new things. Of course that's the simple plan...the real list of goals is absolutely crazy, but I think I can manage it. Maybe I'll post stuff from my sketchbooks, since I don't really do that a lot. But in case I disappear on you all, have some wonderful holidays and all that good stuff!
